Amazon Kindle To Be Free?

Rumors abound that Amazon may soon be letting their oh-so-popular eReader go for the cool price of $0. How reliable are those rumors?

No one can say for certain whether or not we'll be seeing 100% free Kindles come November, but according to paidContent.org, Amazon's Kindle is "now being offered for free with mobile phone subscriptions" in the UK.

That's not exactly free, sure, but it shows me that Amazon is interested in getting their device out to a larger audience, an audience that will in turn end up spending money on eBooks.

Update: Amazon has recently released the Kindle with Special Offers, a specially discounted Kindle that "includes Special Offers & Sponsored Screensavers," though it's still $114 away from being free.
